Benefits of Cat Parenting and Necessary Accessories

[Sponsored]

Being a cat parent is not only emotional healing, fulfillment and plenty of joyful moments but also responsibility and a privilege. A healthy cat is what every cat parent wants, and that means plenty of exercise, interesting toys that keep the cat engaged, quality food available throughout the day, fresh water round the clock, and healthy snacks.

Cats eat many times a day and if food isn't available all the time, they realize they have to eat as much as possible only when the bowl is filled, therefore overeating, unable to play after, and that causes overweight and further health problems. If you can't provide wet food throughout the day because no one is home for many hours, make sure there's always one bowl filled with dry food and plenty of water. Cats sometimes need to be stimulated to take enough water, and placing a couple of bowls with water around the house is a good idea, or get one drinking fountain. They like to watch water flowing and that incites them to take enough water often.

Accessories you definitely need for your cat would include toys in the shape of a mouse, dental sticks, spots for climbing, their own warm bed, a place for claws sharping, tool for nails clipping (check with a vet first how it's done so you don't hurt your cat!).

Spots for sharping claws can be shaped differently, usually are made of cardboard or wood and covered with sisal. Having one or two of those will save your furniture from scratches. Trust me on this, one of my sofas got ruined before I bought sisal covered board.

Safety net for your windows is another thing you should get. Those living in a house don't need this, but those living in apartment definitely do. Safety nets prevent your cat from falling down. Sometimes insects and birds are too tempting, cats forget it's a little high, and then some just simply lose balance. Keep your cat safe always, just as you would keep your own child. Remember, you are a parent now!

For your visits to a vet you need a transporter, and make sure you don't scare your cat on your first trip there. Cat's do not belong at the back of your car. Keep them close in that transporter so they can see you, place their favorite toy inside and their blanket or something else that smells like home. A cat should feel comfortable traveling. Some cats get nausea in a vehicle, or even when carried in the transporter. That's because street noise frightens them, the noise of the vehicle, and new surroundings. If that happens, before your next visit to a vet, try carrying a cat now and then outside in that transporter, for a short time, slow walk around your building, then longer around the block, first in a less loud zone, then with slightly more noise. Cat's don't like changes and though curious, they don't really like a new environment, strangers, and change of patterns in their day.

Cats teach you selflessness but also give an enormous amount of love, smiles, and help cope with bad times. Remember, being a cat parent means being that forever, not for a short time, not because having little kitten is fun, because kittens grow, and cats need your attention and care further through the years. Having a cat means you can not go away and stay somewhere with no one to look after your cat, it's just the same as having a child, and you wouldn't leave your child uncared. Being a cat parent is a big responsibility and it means you will another 10 and even up to 20 years in some cases have to provide food, care, and home to that four-legged baby. Cats are not toys to take and dump once bored, nor if they are naughty. Just as humans they have their moods, and parents don't throw out their child when a child is naughty, right? Cat you adopt is your responsibility, and you have to share what you have and your life with your adopted cat, loving and staying together in good and bad because that's being family.
